I'm Nicholas Taylor, a freelance copyeditor and proofreader based in Tacoma, Washington. I help publishers, organizations, and individuals polish their work, ensuring it's sharp, clear, and compelling to readers.
I learned copyediting and proofreading at NYU Press (2000–2006), where I trained in the production department under my professional mentor, Despina Gimbel. Since then, I've run Grit City Creative, working with prestigious clients like Hachette Book Group, New World Library, Penn State University Press, the University of Minnesota Press, the University of California Press, Duke University Press, and Yale University Press.
I'm a former pop culture critic, indie rock guitarist, and community radio DJ. I also speak intermediate-level French, practice Zen Buddhism and yoga, and enjoy acting in plays. I love projects related to those subject areas as well as literature, technology, history, and politics.
Let me help you refine your prose, eliminate errors, and enhance clarity for an impeccable finished product, no matter the topic. Contact me for a free consultation and discover how I can turn your words into something extraordinary.
